RAMC WASHINGTON WRAP UP – FEBRUARY 21, 2023

CONGRESS

U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations Chair Patty Murray (D-WA) and Ranking Member Susan Collins (R-ME) announced the Committee’s subcommittee rosters, including the roster for the Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies subcommittee.

The Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) voted to advance the nominations of Karla Gilbride to be General Counsel on the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission by a vote of 12-9, Glenna Wright-Gallo to be Assistant Secretary for Special Education and Rehabilitative Services at the U.S. Department of Education (ED) by a vote of 13-8 and LaWanda Toney to be the Assistant Secretary for Communications and Outreach at the U.S. Department of Education by a vote of 12-9.

Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) announced that she will not seek reelection in 2024.

The Congressional Budget Office released a document on the Federal debt limit, predicting that it will be reached between July and September 2023.

ADMINISTRATION

ED announced that it will hold listening sessions on its 2011 guidance regarding incentive compensation and bundled services.

ED’s Federal Student Aid office released updated guidance on third-party servicers.

U.S. Secretary of Labor Marty Walsh publicly stated that he will depart from the U.S. Department of Labor in March.
