Lone Star College to Host Immigration Workshops
HOUSTON (Feb. 8, 2017) – The recent executive order, “Protecting the Nation from Foreign Terrorist Entry into the United States” signed Jan. 27, 2017, by President Trump, has restricted travel from seven countries and affects people of all immigration statuses. On Friday, Feb. 3, 2017, a federal court in Washington temporarily stayed this executive order. Lone Star College is monitoring this changing situation.
To help address questions surrounding the executive order and its temporary stay, Lone Star College is sponsoring a series of free immigration workshops. Immigration attorneys will be on hand to help students, parents and the community find answers and explain how the order could impact them.
“Lone Star College is a diverse institution with a sizable international student population,” said Stephen C. Head, Ph.D., LSC chancellor. “Our international students come to us from all over the globe, including the affected countries. This travel restriction therefore impacts some of our students and their families.”
LSC had nearly 3,000 international students enrolled in fall 2016 from more than 110 countries including six students from the countries impacted by the executive order.
The free workshops will be held:
· Feb. 20 (Monday), 12:30 – 2:30 p.m., LSC-Tomball, North Hall 103
· Feb. 20 (Monday), 3 – 5 p.m., LSC-University Park, West Dining Room
· Feb. 21 (Tuesday), 3 – 5 p.m., LSC-Kingwood, Student Conference Center
· Feb. 21 (Tuesday), 6 – 8 p.m., LSC-North Harris, Academic Building 126

· Feb. 24 (Friday), 1:30 – 3:30 p.m., LSC-CyFair, Center for the Arts 111
“Lone Star College is committed to all students,” said Head. “I urge our college community to practice respectful dialogue when discussing these issues. We should all strive to create a welcoming learning environment that serves but does not detract from our core mission.
