RAMC Washington Wrap Up – May 3, 2023

CONGRESS

The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Limit, Save, Grow Act of 2023, House Republicans’ legislative proposal for raising the U.S. debt limit and addressing other matters such as implementing ten years of discretionary budget caps, and limiting the Biden Administration’s loan forgiveness efforts and higher education regulatory activity. The bill passed on a 217-215 vote.

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) released a document detailing the expected impact of the Limit, Save, Grow Act of 2023.

The U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) voted to favorably report the nomination of U.S. Deputy Secretary of Labor Julie Su to serve as U.S. Secretary of Labor on an 11-10 vote.

House Committee on Education and the Workforce Chairwoman Virginia Foxx (R-NC) and Subcommittee on Higher Education and Workforce Development Chairman Burgess Owens (R-UT) penned a letter to the U.S. Department of Education (ED) requesting information on its plans for student loan servicing.

ADMINISTRATION

U.S. President Joe Biden announced his intent to seek reelection to the office of President of the United States in the 2024 election.

ED announced the awarding of contracts to five companies that will service student loans.

ED released a blog post on the updated College Scorecard online tool.
