CONGRESS

Senate Appropriations Committee Vice Chair Patty Murray (D-WA) and House Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) wrote to White House Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought criticizing his oversight of the submission of fiscal year (FY) 2025 operating plans to Congress.

ADMINISTRATION

On Friday, May 30, the Administration submitted additional materials related to its Fiscal Year (FY) 2026 budget request to Congress. ED’s budget request can be found here, DOL’s budget can be found here and HHS’s budget request can be found here. The full FY 2026 budget appendix can be found here.

Vought, as part of a media interview, stated that President Trump’s full fiscal year (FY) 2026 budget request will not be released until a reconciliation bill is passed.

The U.S. Department of Labor announced that it will begin a phased pause in operations at contractor-operated Job Corps centers across the country.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio made a statement that “Under President Trump’s leadership, the U.S. State Department will work with the Department of Homeland Security to aggressively revoke visas for Chinese students, including those with connections to the Chinese Communist Party or studying in critical fields….We will also revise visa criteria to enhance scrutiny of all future visa applications from the People’s Republic of China and Hong Kong.”
