CONGRESS

The Senate Finance committee released text representing the Committee’s portion of the Senate’s budget reconciliation bill. The Committee provided section-by-section summary can be found here.

The General Accountability Office determined that the Institute of Museum and Library Services violated the Impoundment Control Act (ICA).

Politico reported that the Senate Parliamentarian has found that the provision of the Banking Committee’s budget reconciliation bill that would defund the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau violates the Senate’s Byrd Rule.

ADMINISTRATION

The U.S. Department of Education (ED) disclosed in a June 5 Federal court filing that it either has reinstated or is evaluating whether to reinstate certain terminated ED contracts.

Politico reported that the U.S. State Department issued a cable to consular offices stating that interviews could resume for individuals seeking U.S. student and other educational visas and that consular officers are directed to screen the social media and online presence of new visa applicants and returning applicants.

A Federal district court judge issued a temporary restraining order blocking the U.S. Department of Defense from instituting a 15 percent cap on indirect research cost rates.
