CONGRESS
The U.S. House of Representatives passed House Resolution 1151, a deeming resolution that establishes an overall Federal discretionary spending limit at $1.6 trillion for Fiscal Year (FY) 2023 for the purposes of House Appropriations Committee action on FY 2023 appropriations bills. This resolution is not binding upon the Senate.

The House Appropriations Committee released its tentative schedule for House Subcommittee and Full Committee markups for the FY 2023 appropriations process.

By a vote of 57-42, the U.S. Senate confirmed Amy Loyd to serve as Assistant Secretary for Career, Technical, and Adult Education at the U.S. Department of Education (ED).

Former Congressman and Chairman of the House Appropriations Labor, Health and Human Services, Education and Related Agencies Subcommittee John Porter (R-IL) passed away at the age of 87.

ADMINISTRATION
U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona issued a statement on the confirmation of Amy Loyd to serve as Assistant Secretary for Career, Technical, and Adult Education at ED.

ED issued a press release and fact sheet on Secretary Cardona’s “Vision to Support and Elevate the Teaching Profession.”

ED published a blog post by Under Secretary of Education James Kvaal announcing the appointment of Deputy Under Secretary Jordan Matsudaira as ED’s first Chief Economist.

ED sent its regulatory proposals for Income Driven Repayment, Pell Grants for Incarcerated Individuals, 90/10 and Changes in Ownership to the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) for review.
